Last night, I had a dream. Usually, my dreams are like smoke. The harder I try to hold on to them, the quicker they disappear. But last night's dream was different. I remember it vividly long after I woke up.
To me, it's a sign that it's an important dream. So I put the tools that I learned during the 'Tending your dreams' workshop I attended a few weeks ago.
I won't go into detail about the actual dream, but there were 3 different settings I was in where I went out of my way to accommodate a few of my acquaintances because I wanted to be 'nice'. My goodwill was not reciprocated, which led to disappointment.
I didn't have a lot of time to process the dream this morning, but I asked myself 3 main questions which has given me peace about my dream:
(Note: question numbers correspond to the original blog post on tending your dreams)
5 - What feelings did I have during or after the dream?
I felt disappointed, upset, indignant, and incredulous.
7 - What question(s) does this dream ask of me?
I think the dream is asking me 'why are you trying so hard to cater to/impress your acquaintances?' I think this hit the nail on the head, especially since my blog post a mere 2 days ago was on being concerned about what others think.
6 - What questions do I have about this dream?
I don't have questions about the dream, but I did have a question upon processing this dream: what should I do instead of trying to impress others? I got the answer almost immediately: make room for Jesus instead. To do things that He invites me into without worrying about what others think. The weight of thinking that I need to impress is a burden that I'm unnecessarily carrying. Jesus invites me to let go of them, so that I can live more freely.
I processed all this in my journal (4 pages full!) and started the day with a lot more clarity and peace 😊Dreams are such a God-given gift that I'm learning to appreciate more and more!
